After the downfall of the cyclone “Phailin” in October 2013, Berhampur University turned to appear as a desert. Greenery and the charm of the campus were totally devastated. Thereby Berhampur University decided to make the campus more colourful and eco sensitive and took the initiative of growing up a nursery covering 0.5 hectares of land which is managed by the Forest Department, Governemnt of Odisha. The Nursery has developed one lakh Timer, ornamental and medicinal species plants. Horticulture garden with trees like Mango, Coconut, Guava, Pomegranate are planted across the Campus, so as to create a pollution free environment.
Recently the Nursery has developed the Herbal Garden with 108 species in between P.G Departments of Commerce and Business Administration. It is a matter of great satisfaction that the visitors to the University Campus are tremendously impressed by the cleanliness of the campus. In every monsoon, varieties of saplings are planted in various locations in the campus. The NSS wing including students volunteers, Coordinators, Programme Officers of the University organize plantation drive from time to time to make the campus greenery and giving it a pleasant look.
