Introduction
The Post Graduate Department of Commerce was founded by Professor Pramod Kumar Sahu in the year 1976 and has been immensely contributing for the development of commerce and business education in Odisha and in the country as well by offering two year Master's Degree programme (M.Com), one year Master of Philosophy programme (M.Phil) and Doctoral programme (Ph.D) in Commerce. During its existence over a period of more than four decades, the department has played a pioneering role in popularizing commerce education in the southern part of the state of Odisha. In addition, the department is also offering a two year professional programme in finance i.e. MBA (Financial Management) under self-financing mode. The Department has been imparting value based quality education and research as per the industry and market requirements by using ICT enabled facility, case base teaching, game playing, classroom presentation, weekly seminar, Computer lab assignments, summer internship and project preparation. As an endeavor to promote research and to bring reality into class room, the department offers M.Phil and Ph.D. degree encompassing wide trust areas such as corporate finance, financial markets, marketing management and institutional financing. To make the teaching and research activities updated and time relevant, the department organizes various seminars, workshops, refresher courses, induction programmes at frequent interval. The department has the provision of rewarding meritorious students through 3 endowment awards namely Narasingha Padhi Memorial Fund, Justice Abhimanyu Misra Memorial Fund and Binod Bihari Biswasroy Memorial Fund. The experienced faculty members of the department have added significantly to the existing store of knowledge in the field of commerce and business by publishing more than 70 text as well as reference books. Besides more than 300 research articles have been published by the faculty in various leading national and international journals.

Programme
Master of Commerce (M.Com)
M.Com is a two year programme designed to inculcate updated and time relevant knowledge and skill set among the students so as to enable them in leading different careers such as academician, entrepreneur, mangers and financial analyst. There are 50 seats in the programme. The course contents have been so designed to impart value based quality education as per the industry and market requirements by using ICT enabled facility, case base teaching, game playing, classroom presentation, weekly seminar, Computer lab assignments, summer internship and project preparation. The course provides specializations in Finance, Accounting and Marketing. The course comprises of 2400 marks with 80credit. The course contains a wide range of papers such as Management Concept and Organizational Behaviour, Business Environment , Advanced Statistical Analysis, Accounting for Managerial Decisions, Advanced Financial Management, Managerial Economics, Marketing Management, Financial Institutions and Markets, Computer Application in Business, Practical on Computer Application, Business Research & Business Communication, International Business, Strategic Management, Security Market Operations, Investment Management, Corporate Financial Accounting, Accounting Standard and Corporate Reporting, Consumer Behavior, Market Research, Investment in Stock Markets, Financial Accounting , Management Information System, E-Commerce, Dissertation & Viva Voce, Strategic Financial Management, Portfolio Management, Specialized Accounting, Cost and Management Audit, International Marketing Management and Advertising.
Admission into the Course
For admission into the course, the applicant must be a commerce graduate and admission is based on composite score secured by the applicant in entrance examination (objective type multiple questions) and career assessment.

Master of Business Administration (Financial Management)
In line with changing times and industry requirement, Department has introduced a two-year fulltime professional programme named Master of Business Administration (Financial Management) in self financing mode. There are 32 seats in the programme. The programme is relentlessly geared to groom young minds in the area of finance and preparing them for delivering value in corporate settings. So the programme is designed to incorporate the emerging areas of finance like Corporate Finance, Quantitative Techniques, Management Information System, Merchant Banking, Portfolio Management, Computer Application in Business, International Financial Management, Strategic Management, Insurance Management, E-commerce, Derivative & Risk Management, Corporate Tax Planning, etc. The MBA (FM) programme aims at imparting managerial skill and competence to the students for occupying various corporate hierarchies in the financial services industry.

For admission into the course, the applicant must be a graduate in any discipline and admission is based on composite score secured by the applicant in entrance examination (objective type multiple questions) and career assessment.

Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.)
The department provides one year M.Phil. programme in Commerce through regular mode. The basic objective of the course is to inculcate and develop research spirit and to promote a scholarly attitude among the students. The content of the course covers a wide range of research related papers such as Research Methodology, Quantitative Techniques in Business Research, Research & Publication Ethics, Seminar Presentation, Derivatives & Risk Management, Consumer Behaviour & Marketing Research, Review of Research Progress and Dissertation.
Admission into the Course
For admission into the course, the applicant must be a Master degree holder in commerce and admission is based on the composite score secured by the applicant in University Research Entrance Test (URET) and career assessment. Applicants qualifying UGC-NET are exempted from appearing URET.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
The department offers Ph.D. in Commerce. The major thrust areas of research are Corporate Finance, Financial Markets, Bank Management, Marketing Management and Institutional Financing. Scholars taking admission into Ph.D. programme has to undergo coursework for a period six months. On successful completion of coursework the scholar is allowed to get himself/herself registered for the programme. The coursework covers various papers such as Research Methodology, Quantitative Techniques in Business Research, Research & Publication Ethics, Seminar Presentation, Derivatives & Risk Management and Consumer Behaviour & Marketing Research.
Admission into the Course
For admission into the Ph.D. programme, the applicant needs to hold a Master/M.Phil. degree in Commerce or equivalent disciplines and admission is based on the composite score secured by the applicant in University Research Entrance Test (URET) and career assessment. Applicants qualifying UGC-NET are exempted from appearing URET.

Professor Gouri Sankar Lall holds Ph.D. degree in Commerce from Berhampur University. He is having more than twenty three years of Post Graduate and M.Phil. Teaching experience in Commerce, MFC and produced one Ph.D. scholar and more than a twenty M.Phil. scholars. Currently he is working as senior most Professors in the Department, Commerce, Berhampur University. Prof. Lall has published more than thirty research articles in various International, National and state journals of repute. He has nine books to his credit. He regularly participates in National and International seminars, conferences and workshops and he has already attended fifty such events by contributing articles so far. His research interests include institutional Finance, Consumer Behaviour. He was the Dean, Commerce and Management, member of Senate, Academic Council. At present he is the Chairman, Board of Studies.

Dr. Venkateswara Rao Bhanotu obtained his PhD. Degree, M.Com and MBA (Finance) degrees from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and qualified UGC NET JRF in Commerce and UGC NET in Management. He has also qualified APSET in both Commerce and Management subjects.�He has been teaching in the P.G. Department of Commerce, Berhampur University since 2016. He is a life member of All India Commerce Association (AICA), Indian Accounting Association (IAA) and Orissa Commerce Association (OCA). He has attended and presented papers in various national and international seminars and conferences. He has organized a good number of national and International webinars/ Seminars. He has contributed and published research articles in various reputed international journals. His research interest areas are Entrepreneurship Development and Financial Markets. He has served as a Coordinator, P.G. Department of Commerce and MBA (Financial Management) Self Financing Course offered by the Department during 2020-2022. Presently he is the member of Board of Studies (BOS) and Associate Editor of Research Journal of Berhampur University.

Dr. Maheswar Sethi has earned his Ph.D. and Master of Commerce from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He has qualified UGC-NET-JRF and has been teaching in the Department of Commerce, Berhampur University since 2016. Prior to his joining in Berhampur University, he has served the Department of Higher Education, Government of Odisha as Lecturer for a period of more than 2 years by qualifying Odisha Public Service Commission (O.E.S). He has been conferred with awards like �POSCO Asia Fellowship� for academic excellence in P.G. and �Chakradhar Award� for academic excellence in Intermediate level. In the field of research, he has received �Prof. Manubhai M. Shah Memorial Research Award and Gold Medal� for best research paper in 72nd All India Commerce Conference conferred by Indian Commerce Association. He is a life member of Indian Commerce Association, Indian Accounting Association and Orissa Commerce Association. He is a reviewer of many reputed journals and member of board of studies of many academic institutions. He has presented many research papers at National and International seminars and conferences. Mr. SaktiRanjan Dash iscurrently working as Assistant Professor at P.G. Department of commerce, Berhampur University, Odisha,since 2017. He is also the co-founder of the Institute of Information Technology & Research, JagatsinghpurOdisha, an institution providing free digital education to Divyanga and transgender students. He is pursuing his Ph.D. at Berhampur University and obtained his M.Com, M.Phil., and MBA from Utkal University, Odisha. He has qualified UGC-NET in commerce and in addition he has done cerification from IIM Bangalore. Prior to joining Berhampur University, he worked as a full-time research scholar at the Department of Management Studies (DoMs), IIT Madras, Chennai. He has been conferred with many awards and recognitions like �P.G. merit scholarship for university rank holder� from University Grant Commission (UGC), RadhanathRathChhatrabruti� from �The Samaj�- the leading Odia daily news-paper,Meritious Student Scholarship from Govt. of Odisha and �HTRA scholarship from IIT Madars, for his academic excellence. Mr. Chandrika Prasad Das holds a Master of Commerce and a Master of Philosophy in Commerce from Utkal University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He is presently pursuing Ph.D. at Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He has qualified UGC-NET in Commerce and Management and has been teaching in the P.G. Department of Commerce, Berhampur University. Before this, he served in the Department of Economics and Management, Khallikote University, amalgamated to Berhampur University for four years. He has also worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Commerce, Baba Bhairabananda Mahavidyalaya, Chandikhole, after being selected by the State Selection Board (SSB), Department of Higher Education, Odisha, for one year and seven months. He has been conferred with many awards and recognitions like "Professor Malay Kumar Mohanty Best Research Paper Award," "Baladev Kar Best Young Research Paper Award" from Odisha Commerce Association (OCA), and "Best Paper Award" from Berhampur University for his academic and research excellence. He has visited abroad to Bangkok to present his paper at an international conference and has been awarded the best paper award. He is a life member of the Indian Commerce Association (ICA), Indian Accounting Association (IAA), and Odisha Commerce Association (OCA). He has coordinated many Seminars, Workshops, and Webinars. He has presented over fifty research articles in state, national, and international conferences, seminars, and workshops over his research career. He has authored two books and published his research work in various journals of national and international repute. His board research area is Finance and Accounting.

Departmental Library
The department has departmental library housed with more than 2000 text books for reference of the students. The department also subscribes to various leading business daily to keep the students well aware of the market and economic developments.
Laboratory
A well equipped computer laboratory with internet access and business data analysis packages for the use of students and research scholars.
Summer Internship Programme (SIP)
As a part of the curriculum, every MBA (FM) student has to undergo Summer Internship for a period of 30 days to gain insights into the industry practices and to put the classroom learning into actions. On completion of the internship, the student has to submit a report depicting the practical leanings and present the report through seminar.
Dissertation
To promote research spirit at master level, the students of both M.Com and MBA (FM) are required to submit a dissertation report as a part of their curriculum at the end of the 4th semester.
Seminar Presentations
With an effort to improve the soft skill of the students, weekly departmental students' seminars are held on every Saturday.
Wall Magazine
To promote students' creativity, the department publishes a wall magazine in each semester where the students can contribute their creative works like poems, paintings,dwawings, short stories, quotes etc.
Research Corner
To facilitate better exchange of research ideas among the scholars, the department has a research corner where all the scholars can sit together and work on their research areas with mutual discussion, cooperation and support.
