About Department
Post Graduate Department of Tourism & Travel Studies is the newly created department vide approval of the Academic Council of Berhampur University in its meeting held on 20.11.2021 and Syndicate Resolution No. 58 dated 15.12.2021, with effect from the academic session 2022-23. The Department of Tourism and Travel Studies as per the syndicate resolution shall offer two years regular programme as per the nomenclature- MBA (Tourism and Travel Management with a total seat strength of thirty (30) students from the academic session 2022-203. Besides this, department of Tourism and Travel Studies will offer Ph. D. in Tourism and Travel Management.

The vision of the department will be to provide outstanding tourism professionals with dynamic management and leadership skills grounded in significant and contemporary industry experience.
Mission:
The mission of the department is to nurture a learning environment for the creation and dissemination of knowledge of a global standard. The department will prepare its post graduate students for success in today's exciting and innovative tourism landscape. The endeavour is to develop competent and value-oriented professionals, who will add value to the society as well as help in nation building
Objectives:
The Department of Tourism and Travel Studies will strive to nourish the hidden talents of the youth of Odisha and will also help them to become job creators rather being only job seekers. Through this programme, the students will be able to:

Tourism and Travel Management:
It is a two years (four semesters) regular programme with a total seat strength of thirty (30). The course has been designed in a such a manner that students shall gain both theoretical as well as practical knowledge in tourism and travel field. Admission: Through Odisha Common Entrance Test (CPET).
Doctoral Degree Programme (Ph.D. in Tourism and Travel Management):
Admission into Ph.D. programme shall be as per the Berhampur University rules and regulations and the amendments from time to time.

Ms. Ritu Tiwari is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, Bhubaneswar Centre. She has qualified UGC-NET in Tourism Administration and Management conducted by University Grants Commission, New Delhi. She is pursuing Ph.D. from Siksha O Anusandhan University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. She joined Odisha Higher Education in the year 2018 as Assistant Professor at Khallikote University in the department of Travel Tourism and Hospitality Management. Prior to joining Khallikote University, Ms. Tiwari had taught in the capacity of lecturer at different institutions of Odisha for almost six years. She moved to Berhampur University on 1st October, 2021 after the amalgamation of erstwhile Khallikote University with Berhampur University. She has participated and presented her research papers in several conferences and seminars of both national and international levels. She was the co-principal investigator for ICSSR sponsored IMPRESS research project on Agri-Entrepreneurship and rural transformation of tribal areas of Odisha. She has participated in different training programmes and workshops organized and sponsored by UGC and ICSSR.

Dr. Iqbal Ahmad Bhat is an alumnus of Banaras Hindu University having earned his doctorate in Tourism Management having 'Ecotourism' as a specialization. He has qualified UGC-NET in Tourism Administration and Management conducted by University Grants Commission, New Delhi. His area of research interest is ecotourism and community engagement for sustainable livelihood. Dr. Bhat joined Odisha Higher Education in the year 2018 as Assistant Professor at Khallikote University in the department of Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management. He moved to Berhampur University on 1st October, 2021�after the amalgamation of erstwhile Khallikote University with Berhampur University. Dr. Bhat is a native of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and hails from district Ganderbal in the Central Kashmir. He has worked as a lecturer in the department of Management Studies at University of Kashmir and taught Post-Graduate courses of Tourism and Hospitality Management. He has also taught Under-Graduate courses at Government Degree College Magam, Jammu and Kashmir. He has published research papers in both national and international journals of academic repute like, Elsevier and Emerald. He has received a research grant from Odisha Higher Education Council for conducting research in ecotourism and community development for sustainable livelihood in Southern Odisha. He has participated and presented research papers at different forums across the country. He has delivered guest lectures and invited talks in different academic institutions across the country. He has participated in different training programmes and workshops organized and sponsored by UGC and ICSSR. He is the full time member of World Leisure Organization and Indian Tourism and Hospitality Congress.

Ms. Kalpana Behera is an alumnus of Pondicherry University. She has qualified UGC-NET in Tourism Administration and Management conducted by University Grants Commission, New Delhi. She is pursuing Ph.D. from Berhampur University, Odisha. She joined Odisha Higher Education in the year 2018 as Assistant Professor at Khallikote University in the department of Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management. She moved to Berhampur University on 1st October, 2021 after the amalgamation of erstwhile Khallikote University with Berhampur University. Besides teaching and other academic work, Ms. Kalpana Behera is associated with university administration work. She has the distinction of being the first Assistant Registrar at erstwhile Khallikote University. She has participated and presented her research papers in several conferences and seminars of both national and international levels. She participated in different training programmes and workshops organized and sponsored by UGC and ICSSR.
