About Department

It is the Youngest Regular Department established in 1991 the Silver Jubilee year of the University with support of UGC & DoE (Govt. of India) as one of the 11 such Departments in the country to cater the requirement of Research Personnel in the field of Electronics & Telecommunication. It runs credit based M. Sc. (Electronic Science) in regular mode & M. Tech. (Electronic Information System) in semester pattern. It is also producing doctorates of excellent caliber, well-informed about the state of art technologies. It is well equipped with good laboratories, departmental library and furnished class rooms. Among the host of activities of the department of electronic science, the major ones are teaching and research. It has under taken many sponsored projects by UGC, DRDO, CSIR and DST. The faculty has succeeded in keeping a lively atmosphere among the students, with timely upgradations in the curriculum and innovative teaching techniques. The teaching is closely coupled with the research activities of the department. The students and faculty is having good interaction with institute of repute within the country and abroad. At present around 15 students graduate from the department every year with more than 400 students having passed out of the department uptil now, who are all pursuing successful ventures / careers.

Master Degree (M.Sc.)

About Course Programme

This course is being offered since the inception of the Department of Electronic Science in the year 1991-92, with joint sponsorship of University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Department of Electronics (presently Ministry of Information Technology), Government of India, to cater the need for Electronics personnel in the R & D sector of Government organizations, public sector, and private sector units of the country. At present, it is a CBCS based four semester course with a six month project component in the final semester.

The program aims at training the students in the area of Semiconductor Electronics, Digital and Analog Electronics, DSP, Material Science and RF&Microwave Technology. The students also have to undergo courses in computer oriented numerical techniques. The course structure intends to inculcate strong laboratory skills so that the student can take up independent projects which will help to be an entrepreneur. In addition, the course caters to the requirements of providing complete exposure to NET syllabus for Electronics farmed by the U.G.C.

How to Enter into the Course Programme

For admission into M. Sc. (Electronic Science) course, the Admission is based on the marks secured in all examinations starting from HSC, +2 and Degree basing upon the aggregate percentage of marks. The qualifying degree is BES or BIT or BSc with Physics and/or Electronics & Chemistry/Mathematics/Computer Science.

The admissions are held by the Department normally in the month of May-June. Total number of seats of the programme are 40. Out of which 16.25% are reserved for SC(4 seats), 22.5% for ST(6 seats). One seat is reserved for candidates who have participated in Senior National/International Level competitions in Sports/Games representing the state concerned/India, one seat for physically challenged student.

Class Schedule

Classes are conducted between 10.30 am - 5.30 pm on all working days.

M.Tech

About Course Programme

From the session 2007-08, the Department is offering M.Tech. (EIS) Course in Self-Finance mode. It is a 4 Semester Course consisting of taught courses as well as project works. The first two semesters builds the background through taught courses and Technical Seminar writing. The last two semesters are meant for project work, where students work rigorously in a focused area of Electronic & Information Systems under a qualified supervisor.

How to Enter into the Course Programme

To enter into this course a student must have proficiency in the courses of B.Tech. (Electronics & Telecommunication or equivalent) or M. Sc. (Electronic Science/ Information Systems/ Information Technology/ Electronics & Telecommunication/ Physics with Electronics Specialization or equivalent). The admission is made through a process decided by the Chairman, P.G. Council from time to time.

Class Schedule

Classes are conducted beyond normal working hours as well as on Sundays & other holidays as per convenience of the Guest Instructors.

Ph.D.

About Course Programme

Presently the Department offers Doctoral programme in Electronic Science. There are four specializations to choose from: Electronic Materials & Devices, Instrumentation, RF & Wireless Communication Systems and Signal Processing.

How to Enter into the Course Programme

Candidates seeking admission into the Doctoral course are required to possess an MSc degree in Electronic Science or Equivalent with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. Students are selected through URET(University Research Entrance Test, conducted by BU)/UGC-NET/CSIR-NET. Candidates so qualified for the Research programme have to undergo a six-months course work and clear the same by securing at least 50% marks in each paper in order to become eligible to apply for registration. A synospsis relating to the research problem on which the candidate intends to work for his/her thesis has to be submitted along with the duly filled in application for registration.

Rabindra Kishore Mishra is a professor in the Electronic Science Department of the Berhampur University since 2007. He has researched extensively in the areas of planar antennas and applications of soft-computing techniques for analysis and design of planar antennas. He visited the University of Birmingham as a British Commonwealth Fellow during 1999-2000. He has supervised 14 doctoral theses, published two mono-graphs and over 150 learned articles in journals of repute and pro-ceedings of conferences, seminars, and so on, which earned him IETE Sir J. C. Bose best application paper award (1999) and Shri Hari Ohm Ashram Prerit Hariballabha Das Chunilal Research Endowment Award (2000), Samanta Chandra Sekhar Award in Engineering and Technology (2008), which is the highest award by the Govt. of Orissa. He is also recepient of INSA best teachers award 2015. He had organized short courses on ANN applications for Microwave and Antennas. He is a reviewer for the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation.

Dhruba Charan Panda was born in 1978. Obtained his PhD in 2006. He is PI of DRDO sponsored project. He is having seven years of teaching in BTech, MTech and PG Electronic science in mirid of subject. He is having 16 international non trade journal publication and 30 international conference publications. He has guided two PhD thesis and 8 MTech thesis. Currently seven students are working for their PhD. He has conducted 3 AICTE sponsored FDP and PI of one MODROB. He is recepient of CSIR sinior research fellowship and 2006 DST young scientist award. Currently he is working as reader in dept. of electronic science.

Narayan Sahoo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronic Science, Berhampur University since 2018. He obtained his M. Tech and Ph.D. from Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University and Berhampur University in 2011 and 2016 respectively. He secured 1st class 1st position in M.Sc. He qualified national level entrance UGC NET (Lectureship) in 2013. He is recipient of INSPIRE Fellowship (JRF & SRF) by Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India from 2011-2016 and National Post Doctoral Fellowship (NPDF) by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Govt. of India from 2016-2018. He has published 16 journal papers of international repute, 12 full paper international conference proceedings and attained 20 short term courses and presented conference papers in different prestigious institute in India. His research area include exploring and simulating new low dimensional quantum well structures and to analyse the transport and optical properties which will helpful for future nano-electronic devices.

Subhendra Kumar Dash joined as a Demonstrator in the Dept of Electronic Science, Berhampur University in the year 1992. He completed his masters degree in the year 1990 from Utkal University. He received his MTech and PhD degree from Berhampur University. He got two major Projects from DRDO and CSIR. The DRDO project was successfully completed and CSIR project work is on-going. He published a book named "Theory of linear Antenna Array Using Golden Ratio Positioning of System" which was published by Lambart Academic publishing. His research interest includes microwave communication, microstrip patch antenna in free space and plasma medium. He is a member of IE, IETE, and PSI. He has published more than 10 national and international journals. He also published more than 20 seminar and conference papers. He is closely associated with many educational institutions as a adviser.

Sudam Panda joined as Senior Tech. Asst. in the Dept. of Electronic Science, B.U. in the year 1995. He completed his master's degree in the year 1987. He obtained his M.Phil and Ph.D degree in physics in the year 1990 and 1993 respectively. He also obtained his M.Tech(EIS) degree and Ph.D in Electronic science in the year 2009 and 2012 respectively. He served in the Aska Science College as a Lecturer in Physics for more than one year. He taught Quantum Mechnics, Mathematical Methods, Statistical Mechanics, Analog Circuits, Network Theory and Signals and Systems. He has published 11 research papers in National and International reputed Journals. He has also published 11 research papers in National and International Symoposiums and Seminars. He extensively worked in the thin film laboratory of the department. His research interest includes High Energy Physics, Adaptive Filters and Signal Processing.

Gouri Sankar Maharana received B.Sc. (Honors) in physics, M.Sc. in physics (with electronics special paper), M.Tech.(Electronic Information System) and Ph.D(electronics) degree for his research in the field of VLSI for digital signal processing, all from Berhampur University, Ganjam, India. He is working in the Department of Electronic Science, Berhampur University, Berhampur-7, India since 1992. He is a member of IEEE. His research interest includes design of dedicated and reconfigurable VLSI architectures/algorithms for high-speed digital signal processing, fast algorithm for Interpolation. He has contributed many technical papers on DSP applications in International and National journals of repute.

Facilities

Seminar Library

The seminar library is well equipped with more than 1200 text and reference books and four volumes of journals catering to the needs of students and teachers. Apart from books related to curriculum advanced books are also available which help in research activities of the students. Sample copies supplied by publishers and books donated by alumni are added each year to the library. It is maintained by the Office Assistant of the Department.

Computing

Minimum required computing facilities are at present available. Expansions are being planned for early implementation.

There are Six Labs: Device Lab, Analog Ckt. Lab, Digital Ckt. Lab, Computing Lab, Microprocessor Lab & Communication Lab.

Student Project Work

M.Sc. Students are required to do a project in the final semester, in addition to other course works.

M. Tech. students devote the last two semester to project work only.
